I was in Port Ghalib, Egypt at the beginning of November 2009 and I spent the most wonderful time ever. Although i was there for work, I enjoyed myself. It was shining brightly and hot like crazy, but that was ok, it was better than the cold back in Paris.
Port Ghalib is a tourist resort with beautiful hotels on desert land by the border of the incredible Red Sea. There wasn't much to do by way of entertainment and I didn't have time to sneak away or wonder off farther into the desert, but I enjoyed short walks on the seaside, the sunrise and I even dared to go snorkeling, something I never thought I could ever do. The depth of the Red sea overwhelmed me and each time I'd dip my head into the water, my enjoyment of the beauiful fish and life under the waters was shortlived as I panicked at the expanse and depth. I could hear my mum saying "don't go too far into the water". I understood her fear and even though I could swim, I had the life guard get into the water with me on standby to save me just in case. I didn't want to join pharoah and his chariots of military men at the bottom of the sea! Oh and I didn't have a swimming cap but the lifeguard gave me a shower cap which he helped me fix and tie with a scarf to avoid water getting into my locks. He didn't quite understand why I didn't want my head wet, but he helped me nonetheless.
The food was absolutely yummy and even though I count calories in almost everything I eat, and am into healthy foods and keeping my figure etc. I couldn't resist. There was so much of a choice it was hard to settle for more veggies and less meat. My girlfriend Welly and I did justice to that meat and since we both had such big appetites, we indulged and ate ourselves silly. If there's any truth in it, then I must have been a lion in my previous life, coz I find it hard to resist meat and if it's in front of me, I must have it. BUT, since am into healthy eating these days I'v e been eating more fish than red meat; mackerel and salmon are what I love. I don't care much for fish that has too many bones and little flesh. Anywayz so breakfast, lunch and dinner were King's meals and my calorie intake a day was something like 5000 calories.

I was in Egypt at the right time, at the right place, Port Ghalib, when Beyonce had her concert. On TV she's all ready amazing but seeing her in real life is quite something. The girl's dynamite. She belted those familiar tunes and showed off her sassy figure and dance moves! It was a great show.
I was sad to leave Port Ghalib, the food, the weather and the Red sea. In Cairo I hoped to see the pyramids but because of traffic jams, my guide and I got there just as the gates were closing. So I had a brief tour of the back of the pyramids on a camel. That wasn't easy but it was worth doing.
The biggest mistake I made was go on a dinner cruise on the Nile all by myself. I looked pathetic sitting at a table all alone. Everyone else was paired or in groups. People kept staring at me, with pity I suppose, and I felt awkward. So to make myself feel better I ordered some good wine and enjoyed my meal while I watched some belly dancing. As soon as the boat came to a standstill I left in a big hurry. I'd never do that kind of thing again.
